Orthodontics & Teeth aligning: Diagnosis

What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontic misalignment, like crowded, crooked, and spaced teeth, is a common cause of concern for many. Orthodontic problems also happen to be one of the most common reasons children and young adults report to the dental clinic, and rightfully so.
Misaligned and crooked teeth affect not only aesthetics but also growth, chewing capability, and speech. Crooked and crowded teeth have nooks and crevices that are difficult to clean, which makes teeth susceptible to dental decay and gum diseases. Therefore, it is essential to get misaligned teeth corrected with the help of orthodontic treatment.

What is the process of Orthodontic Treatment?

Orthodontic treatments take a long time and involve detailed planning. To ensure successful and long-lasting results, the most important step is diagnosis and treatment planning. When you first come into our clinic for teeth aligning, our expert orthodontist will thoroughly examine your oral cavity and your facial profile to understand the cause of the disturbance. To aid in a proper examination, x-rays and digital pictures are needed.

Diagnosis in Orthodontics

Long gone are the days when you had to wait for x-rays to get ready. With advancements, we now have digital chair-side 2D X-rays that yield the result in seconds on the computer screen. To study the way your teeth currently align, a panoramic x-ray is taken. These x-rays give your dentist a complete 2D view of your all your teeth. However, for a more accurate analysis of your teeth, jawbone, and facial bone structure, a 3D X-ray such as a CBCT may also be recommended. These digital x-rays allow your dentist to make precise measurements with regard to tooth movement and allow them to tell you in advance the time required for treatment and how your teeth will look once the treatment is complete.
